The Civil War that broke out in Somalia has totally turned upside-down the discourse of “Living in Peace and Harmony.”
Therefore, Reconciliation and Peace Building became a paramount issue in the aftermath of the civil. So crucial that it became more important than many other humanitarian issues in Somalia.
Kisiwani Foundation embarked on campaigns to bring the warring clans together with a tangible success, albeit in a small scale.
One of Kisiwani’s success stories in peace-building involved two clans that fought in the Hirshabelle Region over territorial disputes exacerbated by a political stalemate over whose city will be the capital of the newly formed Federal State Region- Jowhar or Beletweyne.
With funding from the Somalia Diaspora in Europe and the United States – who originated from Hirshabelle, Kisiwani brought the two warring clans that inhabit the South East side of Hirshabelle. A successful peaceful dialogue arbitrated by Kisiwani brought the hostilities to an end.
